Germany’s international cooperation with Turkey dates back to the 1960s. The Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Turkey signed an agreement on technical cooperation in 1970. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has maintained an office in Ankara since 1998. On behalf of the German Government and other donors like the EU, GIZ is currently supporting Turkey’s efforts to host approx. 3,5 mio. refugees. GIZ is currently looking to employ a qualified and reputable Project Coordinator on a full-time contract to support the H2 Uppp in Ankara.


The Project Coordinator’s main activities are stipulated below:


A. Main Activities

  • implementation of the country component “Türkiye” of the global H2-Uppp project with all operational aspects
  • processing technical aspects and further developing the area of responsibility in accordance with the specified quality standards
  • contribute to the technical support for green H2 pilot projects in Türkiye via PPP approaches in partnership with the private sector for the joint implementation of green H2 projects with German/European companies
  • support the identification of economic production and use paths, project opportunities along the value chain and develop business models as well as improve the regulatory framework for green H2 and its downstream products
  • identification of pilot projects for H2 market ramp-up in Türkiye in close cooperation with all relevant actors
  • contribution to knowledge management and impact presentation of the global project and networking with other H2-Uppp countries
  • maintaining a good flow of communication and information between all involved national and international institutions, private sector representatives, NGOs and other counterparts
  • providing professional and technical advice to partners and cooperating with important stakeholders
  • integrating results and experience into teamwork and the work of all relevant groups


B. Required qualifications, competences and experience

  • A minimum university degree (MSc, BSc.), in energy, engineering, renewable energy economics or a related field
  • Minimum ten years of professional experience in public and private sectors, preferably related to energy, energy efficiency, energy transition, renewable energies and business development
  • Strong work experience in cooperating with public and private institutions
  • Experience in project management planning and coordination in an area related to the project’s requirements
  • Experience in building and maintaining contact networks with private and public sector stakeholders and the ability to manage cooperation projects in public-private partnerships
  • Experience in the field of H2 production or use for grid integration, storage, and transportation, would be a strong asset
  • Fluent in English, native in Turkish, German knowledge would be an asset
  • Advanced working knowledge of ICT and computer applications (e.g. MS Office package) required
  • Dynamic personality with a dedicated focus on the delivery of quality services even under tight timelines,
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to work creatively, proactively and innovatively with limited direct supervision
  • Ability to decision-making and problem-solving by advising in a context of potentially diverse interests and complex issues/problems
  • Outstanding verbal and very good written communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a sense of political and other sensitivities
  • Ability to regularly travel
